Understanding Plan Printing and Ink Coverage

Plan Printing is specifically designed for line drawings with minimal ink coverage—typically architectural, engineering, and fashion design plans. These types of drawings consist primarily of thin lines, labels, and annotations rather than solid fills or heavy shading.

Examples of Suitable Plan Printing Files:

Architectural & Engineering CAD Drawings:

  • Floor plans, site plans, and structural layouts.
  • Electrical, plumbing, and mechanical schematics.
  • Surveyor maps and elevation drawings.

Fashion Design Patterns:

  • Garment sewing patterns with cutting and stitching lines.
  • Grading sheets showing different size variations.
  • Pattern layouts with minimal fills or shading.

Technical & Industrial Drawings:

  • Product design blueprints with fine details.
  • Assembly and fabrication diagrams.
  • Wiring schematics with clear labels and thin lines.

What is NOT Suitable for Plan Printing?

If your artwork contains heavy ink coverage, solid fills, or large shaded areas, it exceeds the 15% ink coverage limit and requires Standard Poster Printing instead.

Examples of files that require Standard Posters:

  • Marketing Posters & Graphics – Full-color images, gradients, and solid backgrounds.
  • Presentation Boards & Illustrations – Rendered 3D visuals, infographics, and artistic elements.
  • Dark Background Plans – Reverse drawings (white lines on a black background).
  • Maps with Heavy Color Coding – Heat maps, zoning maps, or designs with large shaded areas.

Why Does This Policy Exist?

Plan Printing is optimized for technical line drawings on lightweight 80GSM matte paper, ensuring cost-effective, high-quality results. Prints with too much ink:

  • May bleed through the paper or smudge.
  • Take longer to dry, increasing processing time.
  • Are not suited for thin uncoated paper, which absorbs ink differently than thicker poster materials.

To ensure the best print quality, please check your files before ordering. If you're unsure, feel free to contact us for guidance!
